Lully, Lulla, Lullay also known as The Coventry Carol, is a haunting and well loved Christmas tune that evokes the Nativity scene from Chapter two of the Gospel of Matthew. Dating back to England in the 16th century, it was originally performed in Coventry - giving it its alternative name - as part of a Mystery play, The Pageant of Shearman and the Tailors. This work has a lullaby-like quality which creates a serene and reflective opening, setting a peaceful tone for the season.
