Wexford Carol (or Carúl Loch Garman, Carúl Inis Córthaidh in Irish) is one of Ireland’s oldest and most cherished Christmas carols - originating in County Wexford. Whilst the origins of this carol are not well known, it is likely to be from the 15th or 16th century due to its style. The interplay between the musicians in this arrangement is to evoke choristers singing a duet from either side of the choir stalls.
